Hull Music Scene: GJM Promotion company, helping to put Hull back on the Musical Map…

In recent years Hull has not attracted the calibre of artist one might expect for a City of this size. Historically Hull has a rich heritage of live gigs: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned and New Order have all played here in the past. GJM PROMOTIONS is changing that, making more use of the various great venues that Hull has to offer. 2014 has already seen New Order’s Peter Hook play a sold-out show at Fruit, as well as gigs by legendary artists Carl Palmer (ELP), Curved Air, The Strawbs and punk legends The Stranglers. Their gigs have now attracted local sponsorship; Great Newsome Brewery will sponsor all their upcoming shows at Hessle Town Hall. According to one of the partners, Gary Marks, this a great boost: “All the gigs we promote carry a financial risk, so any help is very much appreciated. We are delighted to be associated with Great Newsome!”

And what of the future? “We have an eclectic mix of quality bands this year, including a series of punk gigs in July, Dylan Howe’s jazz interpretations of David Bowie’s music, old and new Prog Rock with Focus and Mostly Autumn, and Bruce Foxton’s ‘From the Jam‘ performing the Setting Sons album in its entirety.“
GJM are working on a daily basis to secure more top artists, and already have some great gigs lined up right into 2015. They have the passion and the contacts, so please support their efforts by getting along to some of the shows!

GJM Promotions is Gary Marks & Paul Greendale, who were at school together aged five, and put their first band together aged 12. Gary owned local record shop GJM Music until recently; he now runs the bi-monthly Hull Record Fair, and has been promoting in Hull since 2010. Paul is now based in London, and has worked with many successful artists over the last 30 years as a musician and producer.
